Abstract
Background: Patients with diabetes mellitus require strict blood sugar control to avoid hyperglycemia. Therefore, dietary compliance plays a crucial role in managing diabetes mellitus by aiming to achieve or maintain blood glucose levels, potentially reducing the patient's dependency on insulin. According to WHO, the number of diabetes mellitus sufferers in Indonesia in 2030 is estimated to increase to 21.3 million sufferers.Objective: To explore or understand experiences in managing type 2 diabetes mellitus through dietary measures aimed at reducing reliance on insulin injections at home. Method: This research utilized a qualitative research approach, employing interviews, observations, and documentation for data collection. The interview type used was a semi-structured interview, which is one of the methods employed to address issues related to referring to a list of open-ended questions. It prioritizes key inquiries involving three participants. The collected data were then analyzed using domain analysis. Results: This research has found 5 themes: 1) Unhealthy eating habits 2) Decreased changes in body condition 3) Non-compliance with insulin therapy 4) Diet recommended by health workers 5) Adherence to diet. Conclusion: This study found that the experience of diet compliance can reduce patient dependence on insulin, It was concluded that non-compliance with insulin therapy by patients causes patients to feel uncomfortable due to the effects of insulin therapy.
