Abstract

Background: Patients who have experienced a stroke really need other family members in carrying out treatment and rehabilitation. Families have an important role in the healing and rehabilitation process for patients with CVA. Families are required to have personal skills in caring for CVA patients at home.Objective: To find out how the personal ability of each family member in assisting the care of patients with CVA.Methods: The researcher has used a qualitative design with a case study approach. The selection of participants has been carried out using purposive sampling method involving three participants. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and field notes and analyzed using domain analysis.Results:This research has produced 5 themes: 1). Patience as a caregiver;2). Efforts to seek recovery; 3). Actions to reduce the risk of increasing blood pressure; 4). Instrumental assistance with activities of daily living; 5). Limited knowledge about the importance of mental emotional support and mobilizing family members with CVA.Discussion: The ability to care for a family member with a CVA focuses not only on the physical but also on the mental-emotional state.
