Abstract
Background : Family support is the most important factor in the self-care aspect of diabetes mellitus patients to improve quality of life because it can be a reference for the success of the intervention. The higher the good family support, the higher the quality of life of patients with diabetes mellitus. Maximum family support will provide physical and psychological comfort for people with diabetes mellitus who are faced with stressful situations. Purpose : o find out how family support fulfils the self-care needs of patients with diabetes mellitus. Method : The research method used by researchers is a qualitative method with case studies on 3 subjects, namely Mr. F (P1), Mr. S (P2) and Mrs. D (P3). This research was validated by source triangulation, namely semi-structured interviews directly face-to-face. The data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. Result : Analysis of data obtained by researchers from interviews and has been validated by the participants formulated 4 themes, namely 1) Emotional Support, 2) Appreciation Support, 3) Instrumental Support, 4) Informative Support. Conclusion : person suffering from a chronic disease such as that experienced by Mrs D, namely diabetes mellitus with complications, needs support and attention from the family to fulfil daily self-care needs. Good family support can improve the patient's quality of life and self-confidence so that the patient is motivated to recover. With maximum family support, a person will feel cared for, cherished, and loved.
