Abstract
Background: It is important for diabetes mellitus sufferers to comply with a series of examinations such as controlling blood sugar. If compliance in controlling blood sugar in diabetes sufferers is low, it can cause uncontrolled blood sugar levels which will cause complications. Adhering to blood sugar control in diabetes mellitus patients is a big challenge so that subjective complaints do not occur which lead to complications. Objective: To find out the lifestyle of diabetes mellitus patients with gangrene. Method: The research design in this study uses qualitative research with a case study method. The source triangulation method is collecting data using semi-structured interview techniques from various sources or more than one subject. This source triangulation aims to check the correctness of the data by comparing data from patient interviews with other participants. Results: Five themes were found: 1) Low sugar diet 2) Not doing activities/exercise because of wounds on the feet 3) Irregular medication taking patterns 4) Inconsistent blood sugar control and 5) Experiencing stress when the feet hurt. Discussion: It can be concluded that the lifestyle of diabetes mellitus sufferers plays a very important role in daily life so that blood sugar stability remains effective. In this study, patients did not have an optimal lifestyle, such as lack of exercise or physical activity, non-compliance with taking oral medication and non-compliance with blood sugar control, but other aspects were quite good by making dietary changes so that blood sugar remained stable.
