Abstract
The phenomenon of bullying cases often occurs nowadays. Bullying problems have a damaging impact on social values. Some cases result in victims becoming depressed and even committing suicide.
Bullies usually exhibit aggressive violence, affecting the mental and psychological state of the victims. This research uses a film that contains elements of bullying, specifically the animated series "Lookism" on Netflix with 3 episodes. The study is conducted to understand the construction of bullying signs in the animated series "Lookism."
This research employs a document or text study method focused on analysis or interpretation with a qualitative research approach. It prioritizes Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis to derive the meaning of the bullying signs constructed in the animated series "Lookism." Bullying in the animated series "Lookism" has six types: physical bullying, extortion bullying, verbal bullying, exclusivity bullying, attitude bullying, and cyberbullying. The causes of bullying behavior stem from the perpetrators feeling they possess perfect physical strength and economic power, thus they feel entitled to demean others through physical, verbal, non-verbal violence, and so on.
