Abstract
A person who is visually impaired after birth tends to be more vulnerable than those born with the condition, having had experience and understanding of the world before losing sight. It can affect psychological well-being, decreased self-esteem, anxiety, and decreased independence. The purpose of this study is to describe the self-acceptance of people with visual disabilities adult acquisition of their independence. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of case study research and the research subject taken is determined by purposive sampling techniques. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews, and documentation while the data analysis technique uses qualitative data analysis interactive models (Miles and Huberman). The data validity technique used is to use a credibility test with source and data triangulation techniques. The results of this study suggest self-acceptance is considered an important first step in developing independence. People with visual disabilities acquired in adulthood who already have strong self-acceptance, are able to do various things independently, such as: independence in mobility, independence in personal care, independence in work and career, and independence in social interaction.
