Abstract
Thesis with the title “The Kenduri Durian Tradition in Society (Study in Wonosalam Village, Jombang Regency). In this hesis research, the emphasis is on the initial to final phases of the formation of the Kenduri Durian tradition. These conditions explain the initial process and also the challenges of forming a product from a process of continuous social interaction. These cultural products then have implications in everyday life. The aim of this research is to find out and understand the Kenduri Durian tradition among the people of Wonosalam Village. This research uses a qualitative research approach with descriptive research, which is a type of study to examine a phenomenon that exists in society. With the aim of describing real results and what they are about traditions in society. The results of this research show that the Kenduri Durian tradition is a symbolic meaning held by the people of Wonosalam Village. Based on the data that has been obtained in forming the Kenduri Durian tradition into a great tradition, the community has a symbol of durian which has become a meaning for the soul. This is in line with Herbert Blumer’s perspective regarding symbolic interaction which relies on three main premises, namely (1) Humans act based on the meanings that something has for them (2) Meaning is obtained from the results of social interactions carried out with other people (3) Meaning These meanings are refined while the social interaction process is taking place. Data analysis using the symbolic interaction perspective from Herbert Blumer shows that meaning is the product of a social interaction process that occurs continuously, individuals provide interpretations of symbols in everyday life. This meaning plays an important role in the formation of social reality and influences individual behavior in a social context.
