Abstract

Aldo Fernando. Nim. 201810040311209. The representation of women's commodification in the Banten patriarchal culture in the Yuni film (Roland Barthes' Semiotic Analysis)Early-age marriage issues that are pervasive in Banten culture have a serious impact and require attention as they potentially give rise to major problems. Social, economic, and cultural factors influence this phenomenon with women typically experiencing negative impacts such as pregnancy difficulties, lack of educational opportunities, domestic violence and poverty. The Yuni movie, based on the true story of a young victim of early marriage, highlights this problem. Through a qualitative interpretative approach with Roland Barthes' Semiotic Analysis, this research reveals a representation of women's commodification on the Banten patriarchal culture depicted in the Yuni film. Research shows that early marriages are often triggered by economic factors, free marriage and adherence to customs. Couples' preparedness to face a staircase life has become crucial in preventing cases of domestic violence, early divorce, difficulty in accessing education, economic downturn and inappropriate childcare patterns.
