Abstract

A toxic relationship is a term used to describe an unhealthy relationship that negatively impacts mental and even physical health. In such relationships, one of them may feel more dominant, exhibiting possessive or easily jealous behavior, restricting their partner, and controlling their partner's life without considering their partner's feelings. By focusing on toxic relationships, this research aims to raise awareness about healthy relationships and their impact on mental health. In the film "Posesif," the issue of toxic relationships is well portrayed. This aligns with Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory, which suggests that every audience member interprets media messages differently. This study focuses on reception analysis, where informants provide their interpretations of a film. This approach allows researchers to delve deeper into how viewers interpret the film based on their experiences. The results show that each subject has their unique interpretation, consistent with the active audience theory, which states that viewers play an active role in interpreting messages based on their backgrounds and experiences.
