Abstract
In this era, working women have equal opportunities as men to participate in the world of work, and the progress of working women has been recorded to increase from year to year (Mayangsari & Amalia, 2018). Those involved in professional activities are known as career women, who have made major contributions to economic and social development. At the Balikpapan District Court Office, most of the employees are housewives with working husbands; There are also employees who are separated from their partners because of work, so that daily communication occurs through communication facilities. Therefore, qualitative research will be conducted to identify communication barriers between working wives and husbands.
Communication within the family is included in the category of interpersonal communication which involves forms of information, persuasion and instruction to provide education, persuasion and entertainment. The function of family communication includes improving human relationships, handling personal conflicts within the family, reducing doubts, and sharing knowledge and experiences with others.
The results of this research regarding communication barriers between working wives and husbands show that technical, semantic and behavioral barriers can be identified. Technical barriers involve difficulty arranging meeting times, high work demands, limited time together, internet problems, wifi networks, and damage to communication equipment. Semantic barriers include using difficult to understand words, speaking too quickly, and difficulty expressing ideas. Behavioral barriers involve carrying unfinished work from the office, self-focus, lack of attention to the person you are talking to, and lack of focus when listening to discussions due to involvement in domestic work.
