Abstract
This aims to identify the difficulties faced by SDN Kepel Pasuruan fifth-grade students in their vocabulary acquisitom and the factors contributing to those difficulties. This research used a qualitative descriptive method, several study design ideas can be considered to conduct a qualitative descriptive research study on the factors underlying difficulties in vocabulary acquisition. This research was conducted at SDN Kepel Pasuruan. This research was conducted in June 2023. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade students at SDN Kepel Pasuruan, with a total of 26 students, 12 male students, and 14 female students. Researchers classified their findings into several points: the difficulties students face learning vocabulary. Reseachers interviewed 26 students individually interviews were conducted using a voice recorder. Researchers conducted inetrviews using Indonesian so that communication ran well. Based on the results of data analysis, researchers found three difficulties in learning vocabulary in English: difficulty pronouncing and spelling vocabulary well and meaning vocabulary in English. Based on data analysis, the researcher concluded that there were two factors causing students' problems in learning vocabulary, namely internal factors and external factors. Internal factors, English is a foreign language, most students have been accustomed to using Indonesian since birth and there is a lack of curiosity in learning English. Another problem is that students have difficulty remembering new vocabulary, they also forget vocabulary that they have remembered before. This is because they never relearn the vocabulary at home. The external factor is the teacher’strategy in teaching which is too fast and not too detailed in explaining the material.
