Abstract
Until now, divorce is still considered taboo and is a negative thing for some people. This makes parents hesitant and afraid to openly and honestly reveal their divorce to their children. This is the background for researchers to examine the communication strategies used by parents in disclosing the facts of divorce to their children. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects in this research used a purposive sampling technique. The data collection techniques used were interviews and literature studies. The data analysis techniques in this research used techniques introduced by Miles and Hubbermen, namely data condensation, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of the research show that there are communication strategies used by parents in disclosing facts divorce to children, namely parents do not directly convey about their divorce. Parents build a narrative first and invite their children to tell the story before explaining about the divorce. Apart from that, parents also wait for the time or moment that they feel is right when disclosing their divorce. In disclosing the parents' divorce openly and honestly, the form of message in spreading the facts of the divorce verbally and non-verbally, which is done directly (face to face). Parents are also open and honest when disclosing the facts of the divorce to their children. Apart from that, parents also implement communication privacy management, where parents manage information boundaries when disclosing divorce to their children. Just as parents do not reveal their disgrace to each other. Disgrace in this case is like infidelity or the presence of a third person in the household. Parents are known to be committed to protecting this information from each other from their children because they take into account the child's mental health factors. However, parents still openly reveal the divorce to their children without revealing shame to each other.
