Abstract
In the education system, there are policies that serve as references for the implementation of the learning process, namely the curriculum, which undergoes continuous changes and improvements. The latest policy from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) in the Free Curriculum episode 24: Fun Transition from Early Childhood Education (PAUD) to Elementary School (SD) is to create enjoyable learning experiences. In the learning process, there are language skills supported by early literacy (Membaca Menulis Permulaan, MMP). MMP serves as the basic foundation and prerequisite for all subjects focusing on letter recognition, letter sounds, and letter writing skills. Teachers are required to create enjoyable learning experiences to engage students in the learning process, enabling them to achieve learning goals. This research aims to describe the implementation of the learning process, the challenges faced, and the efforts made by educators.
This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach to elucidate the conditions of MMP learning that occur in early grades and the policies adopted by the school principal. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and documentation. The research was conducted at SDN Ampelgading 02, Selorejo District, Blitar Regency, East Java. The research was carried out during the academic year 2023/2024.
The findings of this research conclude that the early literacy learning process in Grade I during the transition period from PAUD to SD at SDN Ampelgading 02 involves three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation, which involve Grade I teachers and the school principal as policy makers. Grade I teachers utilize lecture methods, question and answer sessions, demonstrations, and discussions. Challenges encountered in the learning process include students teasing each other, lack of focus, wandering around the classroom, reluctance to write and read, and disruptive behavior when facing difficulties in MMP learning. The school's support activities for MMP include reading corners facilitated by the school in each classroom.
