Abstract

Background: Nursing workload is a series of activities or tasks carried out by nurses as part of their duties in a nursing service unit. Excessive workload or low physical capacity can affect workers in terms of job-related illnesses or disorders. The purpose of this report is to understand the workload of nurses in the inpatient ward of Pattimura Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Kanjuruhan, Malang.
Method: This report employs a qualitative descriptive design. Data collection for the report was carried out through interviews with nurses and observation of activities conducted by nurses.
Results: The results in this report are divided into objective findings and subjective findings. Objective findings include observations where the workload for the morning shift falls within the low category with a percentage of 70%, the workload for the afternoon shift is low with a percentage of 66%, and the workload for the night shift is also categorized as low with a percentage of 47%. Subjective findings from interviews encompass an imbalanced nurse-to-patient ratio, leading to an increased nurse workload. The diverse nature of nursing tasks also emerges as a contributing factor to the increased nurse workload.
Conclusion: The workload in the Pattimura ward falls within the low category. However, it's important to emphasize that the variety of tasks that are beyond the competence of nurses being assigned to them could be a factor contributing to the increased workload for nurses.
