Abstract
Background: Fatigue is a common symptom in patients undergoing
hemodialysis and can cause extreme mental fatigue and physical fatigue, which has a significant impact on the patient's social interactions, quality of life and well-being. Patients experience decreased levels of physical activity, decreased functional ability, and muscle weakness resulting in feelings of constant fatigue. This research was conducted to determine the effect of intradialytic range of motion exercise on fatigue in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Method: This is a case report with the subject Mrs. A (68 years old) and Mrs. W (52 years old) with a medical diagnosis of ESRD with diabetes mellitus and hypertension which was carried out at the Hemodialysis Unit of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang General Hospital on January 1-5 2024. Data collection methods were carried out by interviews, observation, physical examination and documentation studies. The level of fatigue is measured using
the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI) and the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) Fatigue Scale (Version 4) or FACIT-F4 which focuses on subjective fatigue data and looks at the results of vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation.
Results: The results of the study show that intradialytic range of motion exercise is effective in reducing the level of fatigue in patients undergoing the dialysis process as evidenced by Mrs. A and Mrs. W was different between pre and post and differences appeared in changes in vital signs between the two patients.
Conclusion: Therapeutic action by carrying out passive or active range of motion exercises based on evidence-based nursing practice intradialytic range of motion exercise effective in reducing complaints of fatigue during the hemodialysis therapy process.
