Abstract
Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a severe infection that weakens the body's immune system. HIV-positive individuals are particularly vulnerable to changes in their environment, both personally and within their family. The presence of a family member who is infected with HIV is still sometimes considered a disgrace, and many get negative opinions even from the family because of fear of being infected, so that the family excludes the patient. This affects the physical, psychological, and spiritual condition of HIV patients due to a lack of family acceptance and adaptation due to limited understanding and knowledge.
Method: The research method is a case study description. Researchers follow the scientific method to the rules of the nursing process by conducting interviews, physical examinations, data analysis, intervention plans, implementation and evaluation of patients with HIV as many as 3 respondents.
Results: After an assessment to the implementation of health promotion with 2 meetings with 2 sessions, there was an achievement in 5 output indicators of improved patient and family health behavior. Three patients demonstrated improvement in all indicators related to adaptive behaviour and their return to the treatment program.
Discussion: The problem of non-adherence to treatment programs that arise in HIV patients due to saturation, lack of knowledge or family understanding of sick members can be overcome by health promotion interventions. However, isn’t enough with health promotion, so regular continuous health and treatment adherence counselling in community nursing care is recommended to strengthen therapeutic goals and the success of HIV treatment programs.
