Abstract

The metal cutting process is a process used to change the shape of metal (machine components) by cutting. There are several groups of cutting processes, one of which is the cutting process using a machine tool, namely the cutting process using a cutting chisel installed on a machine tool. During the machining process, there is interaction between the tool and the workpiece, where the workpiece is cut while the tool experiences friction. As a result of this friction, the tool experiences wear and tear and continues until a certain time limit so that the tool can no longer be used or the tool has been damaged. The length of time to reach this wear limit is defined as tool life. From the research that has been carried out, the level of wear that occurs on carbide insert tool bits increases with the length of the turning distance on stainless steel. cut 25 mm/s, 35 mm/s, 45 mm/s.
