Abstract
This study aimed to described the application and effectiveness of the card sort method to improve students' mastery of Arabic vocabulary at MTs Hasyim Asy'ari Batu. This study uses a quantitative approach with a type of quasi-experimental research in the form of a pretest-posttest control design. The population and sample of research in class VII to 50 students. Data collection methods with observation, interviews, tests and documentation. The data analysis techniques are with Normality Test, paired T-Sample Test and effectiveness test. Previously, there was a research instrument test with an instrument validity and reliability test. The application of the card sort method requires students to move to find every meaning of the vocabulary obtained in groups. So that active learning-based is able to liven up the passive classroom atmosphere. The results of applying the card sort method can be seen in the experimental class with N-gain test results of 65.76% (quite effective). The control class only got 40.41%. (less effective). This percentage is also emphasized by the T Sig (2-tailed) test of 0.000 < 0.05 which means that there is a difference in the results of the two groups of samples tested. The conclusion is that card sort is quite effective in improving students' mastery of Arabic vocabulary.
