Abstract
Technological advancements play a significant role in the increased prevalence of code-mixing among individuals on social media. In this research, the researcher examined how Livy Renata employed code-mixing in her YouTube content. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The data consisted of 4 YouTube videos posted by Livy Renata in May 2023. The data was analyzed using some procedures, including reading the transcript, classifying types of code-mixing, analyzing, calculating, identifying the dominant and least common types of code-mixing, and drawing conclusions. The finding showed that Livy Renata employed 5 out of 6 kinds of code-mixing in her YouTube content. Fifty data containing code-mixing were found as a result of the analysis. 28 data were classified as word insertion, 11 data were classified as phrase insertion, 8 data were classified as hybrid insertion, 2 data were identified as clause insertion, 1 data was identified as idiom insertion, and no data were identified as repetition insertion. Word insertion was the dominant type of code-mixing used by Livy Renata, consisting of 56%, and the least common type of code-mixing used by Livy Renata was repetition insertion, consisting of 0%. The researcher asserts that Livy Renata used code-mixing in her conversation for dual purposes: to express her identity, highlight her multicultural and multilingual social background, and enhance clarity in communication. This study found that influencers are crucial in shaping language trends in social media.
