Sibling Relationship or sibling relationship is one of the most meaningful and unique interpersonal relationships in the lives of many individuals, which is characterized by love, warmth, conflict, and competition. Unresolved conflicts can reduce the quality of the relationship. This research aims to find out interpersonal communication strategies in restoring the quality of sibling relationships after conflict.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a constructivism paradigm. The research subjects are 8 siblings who have experienced conflict and currently the relationship has improved. Data collection techniques are carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana models.
The research results show that in restoring relationships, informants apply five interpersonal communication strategies according to DeVito, namely openness, empathy, supportive attitude, positive attitude, and equality. Factors supporting the success of the strategy are openness, empathy, and commitment to improve relationships. While the inhibiting factors are emotions, ego, and misunderstanding. After implementing the strategy, the relationship between siblings becomes more open, mutually understanding, appreciating each other, and emotionally closer.
