Abstract
Background : Hypertension is a non-communicable disease known as blood pressure that is above normal levels. According to WHO, the number of hypertension sufferers will continue to increase along with population growth.
Objective : To determine the effectiveness of celery seeds (Apium graveolens Lam.) for antihypertensive therapy and explain how it works in treating hypertension.
Methods : A review of original research journals was carried out on the topic of Celery seeds as an antihypertensive using the PubMed, Google Scholar, Hindawi and Publish or Perish. Journals are identified by paying attention to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Next, a table of the results of the journal search was created according to the required data, namely the compounds contained in Celery Seeds and the mechanism of action in treating hypertension.
Result and Conclusions : Based on the literature review that has been carried out, the final results were obtained for 5 journals. Compounds reported as antihypertensives are Apiin, chrysoeriol-7-O-β-D-apiosylg-lucoside, dan 11,21-dioxo-3 β,15α,24-trihydroxyurs-12-ene24-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, n-Butylphthalide, apigenin, luteolin, kaempferol, caffeic acid, ferulic acid and coumaric acid. The mechanisms of action in reducing blood pressure are ACE inhibitors, deuretics and CCB.
