Abstract
Background: In 2019, 463 million adults with an age range of 20-79 years (8.8% of the adult population) were estimated globally to be living with Diabetes Mellitus. The prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in Indonesia based on medical diagnosis at the age of 15 years is 2% according to the results of Riskesdas in 2018. Public trust in the efficacy of Sabrang onions that can be used as antidiabetics. Therefore, research was conducted on the effectiveness of sabrang onions as an antidiabetic.
Research Objectives: Obtained data on the content of secondary metabolites from sabrang onion and antidiabetic activity data from sabrang onion.
Methods: Using a descriptive qualitative research methodology, namely the study of literature. This study uses databases from web journals such as Google Scholar, Researchgate, ScienceDirect and Pubmed
Results and Conclusions: Obtained 7 articles/journals on the topic of antidiabetes. The content of compounds that act as antidiabetics is eleutherinoside A, eleuthoside B, eleutherol, flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins. Some of the mechanisms of sabrang onions as antidiabetics are inhibiting alpha-glucosidase and repairing damaged pancreatic β cells.
