Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease that affects quality of life. The quality of life of patients with hypertension can be influenced by various factors that may trigger stress and require family support. Psychological disorders such as depression and stress, which are commonly experienced among individuals with hypertension, need proper management because they can significantly reduce quality of life. Purpose: of this study was to determine the relationship between stress levels and family support with the quality of life of patients with hypertension. Methods: This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of hypertensive patients receiving treatment at Dinoyo Health Center, Malang, with a sample size of 75 respondents. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires measuring stress levels (PSS), family support, and quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF). Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank test with the assistance of SPSS. Results: The results of the Spearman correlation analysis showed no significant relationship between stress levels and quality of life (p=0.652; r=-0.053). Likewise, family support was not significantly associated with quality of life (p=0.117; r=0.183). Conclusion: This study concludes that there is no significant relationship between stress levels or family support and the quality of life of patients with hypertension. However, in practical terms, family support and stress management remain important to improve the quality of life of patients.
