Abstract
This research explores the phenomenon of communication in the form of dark humor with the theme of father's death on YouTube media through the video titled "CUMA YATIM YANG BOLEH KETAWA" on the YouTube channel MAY I SEE. The purpose of writing this thesis is to determine the audience's reception of the video. The paradigm used in this research is constructive interpretive with qualitative research methods and descriptive research type based on theoretical analysis. The primary data for this research was obtained through semi-structured interviews with five research subjects and secondary data was obtained from previous literature using documentation techniques. The theoretical basis used in this research is Stuart Hall's acceptance analysis theory which focuses on the coding-decoding experience of research subjects and Elizabeth Kubler-Ross's theory of stages of grief which focuses on the stages of grief of research subjects.
The results of this research are three research subjects in a dominant-hegemonic audience position, one research subject in a negotiation audience position, and one research subject in an oppositional position. The reception of the five research subjects revealed that the experience of grief due to the death of their biological father had a significant impact on their reception and interpretation of dark humor on the theme of their father's death. This research also explains that adult women's acceptance of dark humor videos with the theme of their father's death influences a number of factors, including closeness to their biological father during their lifetime, stages of grief experienced, varying individual senses of humor, and forms of grief. The findings of this study provide insight into the complexity of grief experiences and their perceptions of dark death-themed humor in communication media.
