Abstract
Background: Dating violence impacts victims' physical and mental health, especially women. Female students in late adolescence to early adulthood are vulnerable to dating violence. This study aims to analyze factors influencing dating violence occurrence among female nursing students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
Methods: This quantitative cross-sectional study involved 231 female students. Data were collected using Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Devito's communication pattern questionnaire, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Cyber Dating Abuse Questionnaire (CDAQ), and Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI). Analysis used Spearman correlation and ordinal regression.
Results: The majority of respondents (88.3%) experienced low-level dating violence. Bivariate analysis showed significant correlations between age (rₛ=0.203; p=0.002), social support (rₛ=-0.204; p=0.002), and social media influence (rₛ=-0.728; p<0.001) with dating violence. Multivariate analysis revealed that low social media influence was the most influential factor (B=-5.193; p<0.001), reducing dating violence risk by 99.4%.
Conclusion: Social media influence is the most influential factor in the occurrence of dating violence among nursing students. Health education about healthy relationships and social media literacy is needed to prevent dating violence.
Keywords: dating violence, female nursing students, social media.
