Abstract

Child care in Child Social Welfare Institutions (Lembaga Kesejahteraan Sosial Anak/LKSA) plays an important role in ensuring the fulfillment of children’s rights and development, especially for children who cannot be cared for by their families. Positive discipline is a non-violent approach that emphasizes behavioral learning, communication, and respect for children’s dignity. This study aims to analyze the implementation of parenting practices claimed as positive discipline at LKSA Al-Husna Malang and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method through interviews, observation, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of the head of the institution, the secretary, and two caregivers, with three children as informants. The results show that caregiving practices have not been implemented as a conceptual application of positive discipline, but rather as adaptive practices oriented toward maintaining institutional order. Rules and consequences are applied as part of daily regulations, while evaluations function mainly to reinforce activity discipline. Supporting factors include emotional closeness, the role of former residents, and religious values, while inhibiting factors include limited caregivers’ understanding, lack of training, limited number of caregivers, and children’s fatigue due to daily activity pressure.
