Abstract
The increasing number of Instagram users has made various global issues, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, widely discussed on social media. One of the accounts actively sharing humanitarian information is @handsfoundation.idn, which often generates diverse responses from netizens through its posts and comment sections. This study focuses on content analysis of comments to identify emerging sentiment patterns. Therefore, the research question of this study is: how do netizens respond sentimentally to posts about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the Instagram account @handsfoundation.idn?
This study applies public opinion theory to explain how netizens’ attitudes are formed in responding to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on Instagram. Public opinion is shaped by four main factors: cultural background, prior experiences, personal values, and circulating information. These factors form perceptions that develop into opinions. When such opinions are shared and supported by other users, public opinion emerges. This theory is used to examine comment tendencies and to understand how netizen sentiment toward humanitarian issues is formed on social media.
The study employs quantitative content analysis. The sample was determined using the Slovin formula and proportional stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through documentation of comments and analyzed using descriptive statistics with intercoder reliability testing.
The results show that 227 out of 368 comments reflect positive sentiment. Positive sentiment comments account for 62%, dominating negative sentiment at 20% and neutral sentiment at 18%. These findings indicate that netizen comments on the account tend to express support, empathy, and concern regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
