Abstract

Scabies is a skin disease caused by infestation of Sarcoptes scabiei mites. This condition can be identified by severe itching, particularly at night, along with the development of rashes, red patches, and skin thickening in some places. Direct skin-to-skin contact or the sharing of personal objects like bedding, towels, or clothes are two easy ways that scabies can spread. According to data from the Republic of Indonesia's Ministry of Health, scabies is frequently one of the skin conditions that is most common in crowded settings, like Islamic boarding schools, where the frequency ranges from 50 to 80%. This study aimed to examine the association between scabies occurrence and personal cleanliness practices in Islamic boarding schools in Al Ittihad Darunajah. The research method was observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach using a questionnaire with a sample size of 70 respondents. Then analyzed with the SPSS analysis test version IBM 25.0. In this study, a relationship was obtained between personal hygiene and the incidence of scabies (p-value = 0.002) in male and female students at the Al Ittihad Darunnajah Islamic boarding school, Trenggalek Regency. In conclusion The prevalence of scabies among male and female students at the Al Ittihad Darunajah Islamic boarding school in Trenggalek Regency is correlated with personal cleanliness; pupils who have poor personal hygiene may have a higher frequency of scabies at the Islamic boarding school.
