Abstract

Perceptions of the function of social media have gradually shifted. It is no longer merely a medium for personal communication, but can also serve as a media business due to its ability to reach a wide audience. One local sports media outlet that actively provides information on Instagram is Registaco. As of July 30, 2023, the Instagram account Registaco had 28.7 thousand followers and 3,349 posts.

Using the content analysis method, this study aims to identify the types of content that @registaco tended to present during the 2022 World Cup on Instagram. The results of this study show that @registaco provided the most content about Argentina, covering categories such as matches, teams, players, and coaches.

The conclusion of this study indicates that Registaco’s Instagram content regarding the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was dominated by player-related content, amounting to 34.14%. Although the account was not solely focused on match-related content, its posts or feed contained a wide range of categories. These included player-related content as the largest category at 34.14%, followed by match-related content at 17.96%, team-related content at 25.31%, coach-related content at 4.68%, and commercial product content which appeared the least at only 3.31%. There were also supporter-related content at 4.56% and event-related content at 9.95%. Additionally, Registaco provided the most content about Argentina across various categories, including matches, teams, players, and coaches.
