Abstract

Background: Nursing students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang often
experience stress due to busy activities such as thesis guidance and research. Many have
difficulty managing time between academic assignments and breaks, so that less
effective time management is the main cause of increasing their academic stress levels.
Objective: To analyze the relationship between time management and stress levels
among nursing students in writing their thesis at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
Methods: This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a crosssectional approach. A total of 62 respondents were selected through purposive
sampling. Data were collected using the Time Management Questionnaire (TMQ) and the
Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Statistical analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank
test.
Results: Most respondents had poor time management (53.2%) and moderate stress
levels (79%). The Spearman Rank test revealed a significant correlation between time
management and stress levels (r = -0.315; p = 0.013), indicating that better time
management is associated with lower academic stress.
Conclusion: There is a significant negative correlation between time management and
stress levels among nursing students. Effective time management helps reduce
academic stress.
