Abstract

This study aims to develop a Scrabble-based storytelling learning media to improve early reading skills of second-grade students at SDN Polowijen 1 Malang. The learning media was developed through stages of needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through direct
observation and interviews with teachers and students to identify learning obstacles and student characteristics, which then guided the design of an interactive and relevant media aligned with the Indonesian curriculum. Expert validation confirmed that the material content and media design were appropriate and user-friendly for students. The media features appealing size and color composition, accompanied by clear usage guidelines. The media trial was conducted in a classroom with 18 students, where the learning process showed high student enthusiasm, active participation, and enjoyment during lessons. The implementation of the Scrabble storytelling media enhanced students’ vocabulary understanding, reading fluency, and confidence in presenting information. Feedback from teachers and students showed positive responses
toward this media. Thus, the Scrabble learning media is effective for supporting Indonesian language instruction in second grade by increasing student motivation and learning outcomes.
