Abstract
Background: Obesity is a condition in which there is excess fat tissue in the body. Consuming sugary drinks that contain sugar and artificial sweeteners excessively can be a factor that triggers obesity due to excessive sugar intake.
Objective: The general purpose of writing this thesis is to find out the relationship between the consumption of artificial sweetener drinks and the risk of obesity in FIKES UMM students.
Methods: This study was conducted using an analytical survey method with a cross sectional approach. The sample was 72 adolescents aged 18-20 Analysis of examination data using FFQ and BMI measurement.
Results: The results of the spearman rank test showed that the significance value (p) was 0.028 < (0.05), which means that there was significant relationship between the consumption of artificial sweetener drinks and the risk of obesity of the respondents.
Conclusion: The result was significant were found in this study. However, there are other factors that can trigger obesity. As well as lack of physical activity, genetics from the family, psychological conditions that increase food intake and consumption of certain medications.
