Abstract
This study aims to describe the factors causing demotivation in learning Arabic among ninth-grade students at MTs Khadijah Malang in the 2024-2025 academic year and to describe the forms of demotivation experienced by ninth-grade students at MTs Khadijah Malang in the 2024-2025 academic year. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects of this study were 12 ninth-grade students at MTs Khadijah Malang. Data collection methods included observation and interactive interviews using a semi-structured interview format. The data analysis method used in this study was qualitative data analysis, which involved processing data from observations, interviews, and literature to obtain in-depth data. The results of this study indicate that internal factors contributing to demotivation in Arabic language learning include physical and mental fatigue, negative perceptions toward the Arabic language, and learning experiences. Meanwhile, external factors that also trigger demotivation include family attention and support at home, emotional relationships between teachers and students, characteristics of Arabic language materials, an unfavorable learning environment, and peer influence. Some of the demotivating factors found among ninth-grade students at MTs Khadijah Malang include: (1) Fear of making mistakes or not understanding the learning material; (2) Unclear and inaccurate learning objectives; (3) Unclear desires or achievements; (4) Lack of self-confidence, and (5) Boredom with prolonged learning.
