Abstract
Reading literacy is a fundamental and crucial skill in the globalization era, yet international studies indicate that literacy interest and competence in Indonesia remain low. Schools play a vital role in literacy development, particularly through programs like the Merdeka Curriculum. This study aims to explore literacy practices within the "Gerbang Mastuda" learning community utilizing wall newspaper media at SDN Tutur 2 Pasuruan.
Employing a qualitative field study approach, this research analyzes the program's implementation, supporting factors, challenges, and improvement strategies. Participants include the school principal, "Gerbang Mastuda" community leaders and members, and elementary students. Data collection involved observation guidelines, interviews, and documentation, with qualitative analysis techniques. This study explores the role of the "Gerbang Mastuda" learning community in enhancing reading literacy through a wall magazine at SDN Tutur 2 Pasuruan.
Findings reveal that the learning community serves as a collaborative space for teachers to design engaging and contextual wall newspaper content. Implementation involves adapting materials to student interests and employing visual elements to stimulate active participation. Key supporting factors include teachers' technological competence and parental support, while challenges comprise gadget distraction and teachers' time constraints. The study recommends developing more interactive content and conducting regular evaluations to optimize the program, offering practical guidance for schools implementing communitybased literacy initiatives with simple media.
