Abstract
Introduction: Adolescence is defined as the transition from childhood to adulthood, a crucial phase in physical development. Therefore, adolescents must maintain healthy eating habits that can lead to obesity and disease later in life. Obesity is a disease characterized by excess fat accumulation. Obesity occurs due to an imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. Obesity is caused by eating behaviors that include emotional eating, uncontrolled eating, and cognitive restraint.
Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between eating behavior from the aspects of cognitive restraint, uncontrolled eating, and emotional eating with the incidence of obesity in junior high school adolescents.
Methods: This quantitative research was conducted in the form of a survey using questionnaires. The research design used was cross-sectional. The researchers conducted univariate analysis to describe demographic and bivariate data, including hypothesis testing. The Spearman correlation test was used because the data scale in the variables was ordinal. The technique used in this study was purposive sampling.
Results: This study explains that there are 130 respondents with a predominance of male gender as many as 66 people (50.8%). Respondents with BMI 25.5 – 27.00 male gender as many as 34 people (26.1%) and female gender 47 people (36.2%). Respondents with BMI >27 as many as 32 (39.2%) people with male gender and 17 (13.1%) female respondents. Aspects of eating behavior that have a correlation with obesity are CR with sig = 0.004 and UE sig value 0.002. EE has no correlation with sig value 0.435.
Conclusions: Eating behavior from the aspects of cognitive restraint and uncontrolled eating are factors that influence obesity in adolescents, while emotional eating has no correlation with the incidence of obesity in adolescents.
