PEMBERIAN TERAPI RELAKSASI OTOT PROGRESIF SEBAGAI TERAPI TAMBAHAN DALAM PENURUNAN KADAR GLUKOSA DARAH PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELLITUS TIPE 2

Background : Diabetic Mellitus type 2 is one of the diseases that occurs due to disruption of the
metabolic system in the form of insulin resistance resulting in increased blood glucose levels.
Diabetic Mellitus type 2 (T2DM) is one of the major public health problems whose prevalence
continues to increase globally. This disease is caused by impaired carbohydrate metabolism caused
by insulin resistance and decreased pancreatic beta cell function. Insulin resistance causes the body
to be unable to fully respond to insulin so that glucose cannot be metabolized into energy which
causes glucose levels to become unstable and tend to increase. This study was conducted on diabetes
mellitus patients who were being treated at Dr. Saiful Anwar Regional Hospital with unstable blood
glucose levels.
Method : This study was conducted for three days starting from 14 April 2025 until 16 April 2025 using a case study report on
patients with diabetic mellitus type 2 in accordance with the principles of the nursing process using data collection techniques
in the form of assessment, data analysis, nursing interventions, implementation, and also evaluation referring to SDKI, SLKI,
and SIKI. The assessment process was carried out using data collection in the form of interviews, observations, documentation,
and participation.
Result : The results of research related to the provision of progressive muscle relaxation therapy in
patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus showed a decrease in blood glucose levels in patients.
Therefore, progressive muscle relaxation therapy is an additional therapy that can be used to reduce
blood glucose levels in patients with diabetic mellitus type 2.
Conclusion : Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is an additional therapy that can support special
care for patients with diabetic mellitus type 2 in lowering blood glucose levels. The use of
progressive muscle relaxation therapy can help lower blood glucose levels in patients with diabetic
mellitus type 2 by changing muscle contraction and relaxation alternately so that it can increase
glucose use by muscles and lower blood glucose levels.
