Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a disorder of the circulatory system that can cause serious complications and even death if not properly controlled. This disease is one of the public health problems whose prevalence continues to increase, including in the working area of the Mulyorejo Health Center, Malang City. Hypertension management requires good self-management, and one of the important factors that influences it is the level of knowledge of sufferers about hypertension.
Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge and self-management in hypertension sufferers.
Method: This study used a non-experimental quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling with a total of 114 respondents. Data were collected through a knowledge questionnaire and a hypertension self-management questionnaire.
Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents had high knowledge (95.6%) and good self-management (96.5%). The results of the analysis using the Spearman Rank test obtained a p value = 0.000 and a correlation value of r = 0.890, indicating a very strong relationship between knowledge and self-management.
Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that the higher the knowledge of hypertension sufferers, the better their ability to manage their disease independently. Therefore, ongoing health education is needed to improve patient understanding in preventing hypertension complications.
