Abstract
The development of social media has influenced the way Generation Z accesses information, including history learning. TikTok as a short video platform is one of the media used to deliver educational content in an interesting and easy-to-understand manner. One account that utilizes this media to present historical educational content during the Indonesian independence period is @gejapramano. This study aims to determine how 12th grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tuban interpret the historical educational content of the account. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This research uses Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding model of reception theory. All informants were selected by purposive sampling, then data were collected through interviews and documentation. The results showed that the meaning of informants was divided into two positions, namely dominant and negotiation. The majority of informants were in the dominant position because they accepted the message content as a whole and considered it educative, informative, communicative, and relevant to history learning materials at school. Meanwhile, some other informants are in the negotiation position, which shows partial acceptance of the message with some notes regarding the way of delivery on @gejapramono's content. These findings suggest that TikTok has potential as an effective educational media among students.
