Abstract

The gender violence experienced by Mahsa Amini has become a global issue that has triggered widespread attention, especially among international media. This research aims to analyze how CNN and BBC media framed the news about the gender violence that occurred to Mahsa Amini. This research is important to do because it seeks to understand how media framing shapes international public opinion on the struggle of women in Iran and how media narratives can strengthen or obscure the substance of women's human rights issues. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach and framing analysis based on Erving Goffman's theory. The results showed that CNN framed the Mahsa Amini Movement as a symbol of the struggle for human rights and global feminism, by emphasizing the courage of Iranian women against the repressive patriarchal system. Meanwhile, BBC uses a more descriptive-analytical approach with a focus on Iran's domestic political dynamics, but still maintains an emphasis on women's rights as part of the civil liberties discourse. Both media show framing tendencies that support the struggle of Iranian women, although with different delivery styles and narrative intensity. CNN and BBC's framing of gender violence against Mahsa Amini not only shapes public perception, but also contributes to building global solidarity on issues of gender equality and human rights.
