Abstract

This study specifically describes the process of interpersonal communication using digital devices and media as assistive tools in the learning activities of deaf students at SLB Putra Jaya Malang. The research aims to explore how communication using digital devices and media occurs between teachers and deaf students during interactions at SLB Putra Jaya, Malang City. Employing a qualitative approach and case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the school principal and teachers of deaf students, classroom observations during the learning process, and documentation as supporting data to gain a more holistic understanding. The results indicate that digital communication tools used include smartphones, LCDs, projectors, WhatsApp applications, and educational websites adapted to the needs of deaf students. This digital communication process fosters an effective and active pattern of personal interaction for deaf students. The use of digital communication media in learning activities would be challenging without the support of the school and teaching staff. Therefore, SLB Putra Jaya Malang utilizes digital communication devices and media that are tailored to the students’ needs and abilities as a form of support for deaf learners. This research provides in-depth insights into the interpersonal communication between teachers and deaf students in classroom interactions through the use of digital communication tools and media.
