Abstract

Background : For many years, sleep disorders have become a public health problem. Sleep is an important physiological phenomenon and sleep disorders have a significant negative impact on health. Weight gain is a common problem among various groups of people, weight gain mainly affects teenagers to young adults. The aim of this research is to determine whether there is a relationship between sleep quality and body mass index in students from the Class of 2022-2023. Method : Descriptive correlation research design with a cross-sectional approach with 134 student respondents. Primary data was collected through measuring height, weight and filling out questionnaires completed by students themselves. The questionnaire used is the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results : The results of this study show that the majority of students from the Class of 2022-2023 have poor sleep quality, 116 (86.6%). Meanwhile, the body mass index (BMI) in normal students is 75 (56%). From the results of the Spearman rank test analysis, it shows that the significant value obtained from this research is (p value (0.141) where (0.141) > ∝(0.05) so that H1 is rejected, meaning there is no relationship between sleep quality and body mass index in students. Conclusion: From these results it can be concluded that there is no relationship between sleep quality and body mass index in undergraduate nursing students class of 2022-2023.
