Abstract
This study aims to analyze how online media frame the suicide case of students of the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University (Undip) that occurred in August 2024. The high number of student suicides recorded by the National Criminal Information Center (Pusiknas) from January to August 2024 highlights the importance of attention to mental health issues in higher education environments. The analysis was conducted on 38 news articles using quantitative content analysis methods with the help of Voyant Tools. Of the total 11,268 words in the corpus, the researcher analyzed the top 298 word forms based on the Pareto principle (20% of the most common word forms). Content categorization is divided into two categories: Context and Incident Dynamics, which are analyzed through the first-level agenda setting to see the frequency of occurrence of key issues, and Institutional Dynamics and Broader Narratives, based on the second-level agenda setting to explore how the media depicts institutions. As a result, the subcategory of “victims and accidents” became the most dominant in the first category with 1,141 incidents (10.41%), while the subcategory of “health services and medical fields” stood out in the second category with 904 incidents (8.01%). This shows that the media not only highlights personal tragedies, but also builds institutional narratives about the medical education environment.
