Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by increased blood glucose as a result of decreased insulin secretion or impaired insulin action in pancreatic β-cells. High levels of glucose in the blood are caused by an unhealthy diet, resulting in a disrupted pancreatic inadequate insulin production system. The severity caused by Diabetes Mellitus (DM) can be treated with several treatments from the pharmaceutical industry, such as utilizing herbal plants. Green betel leaf is an herbal plant that has a variety of properties because it contains a variety of chemical substances. Green betel leaves in pharmacology can be used as antibacterial, antidiabetic, anti-ulcer, anti-lava, and analgesic. This study aims to determine the effect of green betel leaf extract (Piper batle L.) on reducing blood glucose and pancreatic histopathology of hyperglycemia white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The sampling technique used in this study was simple random sampling using 24 white rats which were divided into 4 groups, 1 control group and 3 treatment groups. The results showed that the dose of 42 mg/KgBB was most effective in reducing blood glucose with a histopathological picture of pancreatic β-cells of white rats at a dose of 42 mg/Kg BB there was edema damage, inflammatory cell infiltration, fatty degeneration, parenchymal necrosis, and the lowest hemorrhage. The results of this study can be utilized by high school students as an application for biology learning resources in class XI biology subjects on Standard Competency 3.4 regarding analyze the relationship between tissue structure, location and function of organs in animals.
