Abstract
Reading is one of the fundamental skills that students must master from the early years of primary school. However, in reality, many first-grade students still face difficulties in reading, particularly in recognizing syllables and correctly forming words. These challenges can hinder the overall learning process. Therefore, this study aims to improve students’ reading abilities through the application of the syllabic method in Grade I at SDN Wonokitri Tosari.
The silaba method is an instructional approach that begins with the introduction of silaba and proceeds to combine them into meaningful words. This research uses a quantitative approach with a one group pretest posttest design. The subjects consisted 0f 18bfirst-grade students. The instruments used were pretest and posttest assessments, as well as documentation.
The result showed an increase in the average score from 61.11 pretest to 67.78 posttest. Hypothesis testing using a paired sample t-test produced a significance value of 0,361 > 0,05, indicating that H₁ is accepted. Thus, the silaba method significantly affects the improvement of students reading skills. Tis method can be an effective alternative in teaching early reading at the elementary level.
