Abstract
Background: Emergency Department (ED) is the front line in health services that plays an important role in handling emergency patients. The right triage decision by nurses greatly affects the quality of service and patient safety. However, several factors such as knowledge, work experience, education, and work environment are thought to influence the accuracy of triage decision making.
Objective: This study aims to analyze factors related to nurses' ability in triage decision making using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) system in the emergency room of a type C hospital in Malang Regency.
Research Methods: The research design used is correlational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. This study is quantitative and measures the relationship between independent variables (knowledge, experience, education, work environment) and dependent variables (triage decision-making ability) simultaneously at one time.
Results: The results of the study Most respondents have moderate knowledge level (52%), less than 10 years of work experience (60%), D3 education (48%), and moderate work environment perception (56%). Spearman test showed no significant relationship between all variables studied with triage decision-making ability (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between the factors of knowledge, work experience, education and training, and work environment and the ability of nurses to make triage decisions in the emergency room of type C hospitals in Malang Regency. These findings suggest that other factors beyond the variables studied may have a greater influence on triage decision-making.
