Abstract

This study aims to understand the experience of teachers in building interaction and communication with students with special needs at SLB YPAC Malang City. The approach used is qualitative with a phenomenological method, which focuses on the subjective experience of teachers. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews with five teachers. The results of the study showed that teachers experienced the communication process as something that was not only technical, but also emotional and personally meaningful. These experiences include initial difficulties in understanding student character, adapting communication with visual and nonverbal approaches, and creating emotional relationships that are the key to successful communication. Teachers interpret interaction and communication as an inner learning process that forms empathy, patience, and self-transformation as educators. This study shows that communication with students with special needs is not just about conveying messages, but rather a social experience that builds relationships and the meaning of life.
