Abstract

This thesis investigates the influence of ChatGPT on English language acquisition among students at English Tribe SMAN 1 SOOKO. The subjects of this investigation are students from English Tribe SMAN 1 SOOKO who have prior experience using ChatGPT. The research employs a qualitative design, utilizing semi-structured interviews for data collection. The findings are categorized into positive and negative perceptions. Positive viewpoints encompass the advantages of ChatGPT in assisting with homework, facilitating word translation for enhanced language comprehension, and aiding in the improvement of English language skills. Conversely, negative viewpoints highlight concerns regarding the inconsistency of the tool's response times and the potential for students to develop a reliance on ChatGPT for task completion. Additionally, a majority of six students indicated that ChatGPT has a significantly beneficial impact on their English learning activities.
