Abstract

Software plays an important role in modern life, and accurate cost estimation is crucial for the success of development projects. This research aims to compare two methods in the context of the BPI application development project at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The study discusses and compares two cost estimation methods, namely Use Case Point (UCP) and Fuzzy Use Case Point (FUCP), in the context of the BPI application development project at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. UCP offers a structural approach, while FUCP uses fuzzy logic to handle the uncertainty of ambiguous specifications. The steps undertaken in this research involve considering features and transactions, then calculating the number of actors to determine the UUCP (Unadjusted Use Case Points). Technical factors (TCF) and environmental factors (EF) are then determined and multiplied to obtain the total UCP and FUCP, which are used for cost and time estimation of the project. The research findings indicate that the Fuzzy Use Case Point method produces results closer to actual estimates, specifically a duration of 6 months and a cost deviation of 24.63% from the actual cost. The implications of this research are that FUCP, with its ability to manage uncertainty and the complexity of project specifications, is more reliable in the context of projects with high variability.
