Abstract
Background : Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a type of sleep disorder that occurs repeatedly in the respiratory system when a person is resting/sleeping. OSA is one of the risk factors for stroke, especially ischemic stroke. Some characteristics that can be identified that someone has OSA are loud snoring, when sleeping there is respiratory arrest, and during the day the person experiences excessive sleepiness.. This study aims to determine what are the factors that affect Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in stroke patients through literature Review.
Methods : Method in this study uses the literature review method. Using 3 databases consisting of Proquest, PMC, and Garuda with the topic “stroke AND obstructive sleep apnea”. Journals range from 2018-2023 and journals must be open access. The research methods used are RCT, Cross Sectional Study, quasi-experimental, Cohort Study, and Longitudinal Study. After getting the Journal, the researchers did a double screening and Journal JBI score calculation.
Results : Results of this study stated the following: there are factors that cause obstructive sleep apnea(OSA) in stroke patients such as obesity, sex, smoking and alcohol consumption. There are interventions that can be performed on stroke patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea such as CPAP that have the benefit of improving the symptoms and effects of stroke..
Conclusion : There are factors that affect obstructive sleep apnea in stroke patients.
