Abstract

Negative labeling is the act of assigning labels, designations, or attributes that demean, insult, or marginalize an individual, group, or certain situation. This act is often based on assumptions, stereotypes, or prejudices without considering the actual facts. This study aims to analyze the impact of negative labeling on prostitutes at UPT Social Rehabilitation Bina Karya Wanita Kediri. Negative labeling is defined as stigma or a bad mark imposed by society on individuals or groups deemed to deviate from social values. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that negative labeling has significant impacts on prostitutes, including social discrimination, exclusion, reduced self-confidence, and difficulties in undergoing the rehabilitation process. Moreover, this labeling also affects psychological well-being, triggering emotional disturbances and social alienation. This study provides a theoretical contribution to understanding the implications of labeling theory, particularly in the context of prostitutes, as well as practical benefits for rehabilitation institutions to improve social and psychological approaches in supporting their recovery.
